The difference in stats between exotic and ascended is pretty small. For gloves: Exotic Berserker: +45 Power +32 Precision/Ferocity. Ascended Berserker: +47 Power +34 Precision/Ferocity. This makes it so that you can run most content in the game with Exotic Berserk armor easily.
Almost for sure they were converting karma to leather via grab-grabbin' gloves. It's currently worth under 10s per 1000 karma and tedious as heck. You take a character with lots of room in inventory and a personal mystic forge node. You buy a full inventory-worth of the gloves, combine 4 at a time in the forge, salvage the results.

You're wrong and probably confusing ascended with exotic precursors drop which may pop from anything, almost any container - world bosses chests included, while ascended gear drops only from mentioned already Tequatl and Triple Trouble in open world - unless anet stated specifically that world boss xyz has included ascended gear in its loot pool.
Ascended trinkets have stats that already include the equivalent of jewels. There is absolutely zero reason to worry about infusions unless you fall into one of these categories: You fractal (in which case AR+x infusions are fine; you don't need stats)
